Resumo: Em plano século XXI, frente a novas ondas conversadoras, ancoradas em discursos racistas, os temas relacionados a identidades e etnicidades continuam sendo pertinentes para os estudos históricos, sobretudo para a Medievalística. Diante de movimentos e discursos que ainda se alegam herdeiros de uma identidade europeia, a qual estaria sendo apagada e exterminada em função da presença de imigrantes no continente, torna-se importante repensar ambos os conceitos e sua aplicabilidade para os estudos sobre o Medievo. O objetivo deste artigo consiste em apresentar os debates mais recentes em torno do conceito de identidade e etnicidade e pensar a aplicabilidade de ambos enquanto categorias de análise na Medievística, sobretudo tomando como público-alvo estudantes de graduação em contato pela primeira vez com a temática.

Abstract: In the 21st century, in the face of new waves of conservative, anchored in racist discourses, themes related to identities and ethnicities continue to be relevant for historical studies, especially for medieval studies. Faced with movements and discourses that still claim to be heirs of a European identity, which would be erased and exterminated due to the presence of immigrants on the continent, it becomes important to rethink both concepts and their applicability to studies on the Middle Ages. The purpose of this article is to present the most recent debates around the concept of identity and ethnicity and to think about the applicability of both as categories of analysis in the medieval period, specially targeting undergraduate students in contact with the topic for the first time.
