A REFLEXION ON THE LITERARY PROJECT OF GONÇALVES DIAS

Abstract

This article examines Gonçalves Dias's literary project, aiming to highlight the efforts made by the author to complexify and challenge the Romantic literary project associated with the nation-building politics of the Second Reign. To do so, we present the context of Romantic literary production and aspects of the author's biography and intellectual trajectory. Through this historical lens, we investigate the peculiarities and boundaries of Gonçalves Dias's literary project, which paradoxically runs in a parallel direction and, at times, opposes the movement led by Romanticism, in line with economic and intellectual elites
