Abstract

This research searches the concepts of memory and identity, in order to understand how the space described in the novel, Marginais, by the writer Evel Rocha, contributes to the construction of the identity of marginalized subjects who experience the contextualized place in the work. Memory is a phenomenon that is constituted in groups, but it is also always a work of the subject, and the identity portrays, in the construction of memory, all the investment that a group makes as far as it goes through countless experiences. In the novel Marginais, the approach of these concepts is notorious, since it reflects the lives of the characters, both in individuall and collective plans. It is important to highlight that the space in which the characters live and transit, the chaotic moments experienced there, interferes, in the formation of their identity directly, in the construction of their memories. This work is presented here, which is the product of bibliographic research and focused on a qualitative approach, based on reflections and discussions developed by theorists such as Halbwachs (2003) about collective memory; Joel Candau (2012) with his contributions about the dialectic of memory and identity; Alvarenga (2017) and Relph (2012) and others, presenting their notions of place, and living/experiences that transfigure space into place, operating in the identity of the subjects.
