This article has as object of analysis the Mercedez Nuñez Targa’s autobiographical report, referring to her detention in the Female Prison of Ventas (Carcel de Ventas) during the Francoist Regime. Permeated by portraits of disrespect for human beings, such reports has the objective that the suffering of victims is not forgotten. On the other hand, they also show solidarity and the ideals of resistance shared by these women. In valuing companionship, art and culture, they find meaning and hope, even in the midst of horror. Thus, this study proposed here approaches Nuñez-Targa’s reports, seeking to understand them as a counterpoint to the “pact of oblivion” in the Spanish redemocratization process, on which Mercedes Yusta Rodrigo (2014) talks – but also and above all discusses the dynamics of resistance established by the women portrayed in the work, relating them to the idea of survival of fireflies, by Georges Didi-Huberman (2011).
