O EXERCÍCIO DO TEMPO: UMA FILOSOFIA DA HISTÓRIA NA VISIO TNUGDALI ALEMÃ

Resumo: Este breve ensaio tem por finalidade propor uma análise, à sua maneira inaugural, da versão alemã da Visio Tnugdali (c. 1190), nela investigando elementos que possam configurar uma filosofia medieval da História. Para tanto, indagamos o que seria, propriamente, uma Filosofia Medieval e sua atualidade, para então percebermos o tempo e a história como locus mitopoético do pecado e do livre-arbítrio, da redenção e da perdição. Procuramos postular a ideia de que a Visio Tnugdali alemã, tal como suas congêneres latina e portuguesa, pode ser decifrada, do ponto de vista histórico-filosófico, a partir de uma moldura agostiniana. Com efeito, em que pese o fato de a produção filosófica e teológica escolástica já ser bastante florescente e ativa no século XII, nas regiões setentrionais da Europa centro-medieval predominava ainda a Patrística de matriz agostiniana. O enquadramento agostiniano permite-nos contemplar a aventura da alma do cavaleiro cortês Túndalo pelo Além centro-medieval como uma metonímia sacramental da História da Salvação, que é, a certo modo, a própria História Universal permeada pela Graça Divina.

Abstract: This brief essay aims at proposing a somehow inaugural analysis of the German version of the Visio Tnugdali (c. 1190), scruting the elements which can set up a mediaeval philosophy of History. Therefore, we inquire what a Mediaeval Philosophy would indeed be and its actuality, so that we can perceive time and history as the mythopoetic locus of sin and free-will, redemption and doom. We endeavour to state that the various versions of the Visio Tnugdali can be deciphered, from a historic-philosophical point of view, with an Augustinian shaping. In fact, for all Scholastic production in the fields of Philosophy and Theology was in the 12th century already flourishing and active, in Northern regions of mid-mediaeval Europe, Augustinian theology still prevailed. Indeed, Augustinian shaping can endow us with the possibility of looking upon the adventure of the corteous Knight Tnugdalus’ soul throughout the mid-mediaeval Beyond as a sacramental metonymy of Redemption History, which is, in some sense, Universal History pervaded by God’s Grace.
